Evolution of Rama

Rama was a very valiant warrior! He was a person who was adored, honoured and slowly morphed over a period of time into God.

No doubt he is someone to be adopted and admired. Possibly, emulated wherever possible.

But then, Rama has always been a symbol of racism!

Symbol of Racism?

Not by birth but over a period of time, Rama was subjected to racist views and thoughts. Many of our Gods have been subjected to the same treatment from us, over the last few centuries.

Rama is no different.

Rama was born a dark man. Black! So black that he vied with the darkest of the rain bearing clouds that ever roamed the atmosphere. Many a literature in the past would vouch for this statement of mine!

In those days, black was considered beautiful. Therefore, Rama was dark! Not just Rama, Krishna was also dark and beautiful, attractive and manly!

And every one of these Gods evolved over a period of time with the varying thoughts of the people. Rama was beautiful. How can he be beautiful if he was dark? This was the thought that should have ravaged the minds of the numerous men who thronged the corridors of ‘decision making’. What decisions, you might wonder? Well, these are decisions pertaining to the divine, of course!

Our concept of beauty has wavered. We have moved to a perception that dark is no more beautiful! Therefore, we in our perception, made Rama ‘blue’!

Of all colors, BLUE! Just imagine a man who was blue! A human being can become blue only if he has poison in him. Well that does not apply to Vishnu or Rama, his incarnation. Or to Krishna for that matter who was also turned blue by the new believers of the faith who decided that black or dark can never be considered beautiful!

Not just Rama and Krishna! Not just men. Unfortunately, beautiful women of the past were also dark!

One of the most beautiful women in Indian mythology was Meenakshi. She had suitors from all corners of the world, and she was the damsel who ruled Madurai. She was dark skinned and remarkably beautiful.

But how can this be? Dark skinned lady, being beautiful is beyond acceptance. Therefore, she was promptly turned to Green! Believe me, she is Green colored now!

Green Meenakshi! Sad tale really!

So is the case with many other beautiful maidens of Indian mythology. The damsel who had five husbands, Draupadi was also called Krishna because she was dark skinned.

Unfortunately for all those white skinned actors and actresses of today, there is no God who was white! But we have moved into an era where white is considered beautiful and not blue, green or yellow.

So what do we do?

Our Gods are taking a new turn, now. In the new age, white is considered beautiful. Therefore, colors of our Gods are also changing and they are moving from Blue to White. Green to White. Yellow to White and so on!

At least now, will people believe, whether God created man or not, man is the one who colours the Gods! And creates Them beautifully!
